But for Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn,
the story is always about her and him---
how they met, what they said, how 'it' happened---
and the her or him who later came in between,
the story is always about her and him
But for Frenchy Jules and the German Jim
the story is always about her and him
how love breached their rock-hearts, they reckoned,
and the new love that later wedged in between,
the story is always about her and him
No love-lore on Wilde nor on Wystan Auden
For the story is never about him and him
For there the World always comes in between,
the story is always about her and him.
