[ZESTPoets] Katia Kapovich / Philip Nikolayev

Philip Nikolayev and Katia Kapovich are the editors of the journal Fulcrum that I've been talking about.  They're both deep, feeling poets themselves, but write in very different styles-- which partly accounts for the eclecticism of Fulcrum.  They are both Russian emigres to the US.  Kapovich has been well known in Russia for some years, publishing with the same press that published Joseph Brodsky (she was also a good friend of Brodsky's), but recently she published a volume of poems in English, Gogol In Rome.  She makes emotionally nuanced stories which sound like they're true, but aren't quite.  Nikolayev's poems are more experimental, exulting in language, sometimes nutty, sometimes funny, sometimes morose.  He happens to have studied Urdu and by a series of accidents, published his second book in India.  His third and most recent book is Monkey Time.  Here is an interview with Nikolayev which I think should be of quite some interest to those here...
