[ZESTPoets] Life was Beautiful...

LIFE WAS BEAUTIFUL

 

They say rhythm makes melodies;

Not so.

Not anymore.

I ought to know

I do know.

I've been there, and I've seen it all.

Through and through, in and out.

There is no melody, just noise_ time out.

And I've lived it;

This rhythmical,

Miserable,

Despicable,

Existence…

Same involuntary existence,

From day to day,

Like a reflex.

 

It is rhythmical all right.

In its movement from day to night,

To and fro, left and right,

So balanced it makes you sick!

Huh, living is no longer a trick;

Living meaningfully is.

 

And yet there is rhythm.

But definitely no melody.

For rhythm now is a cursed malady,

Amounting to cheap mundanity,

When the whole of humanity,

has nothing better to do,

then to sit glued…

To TV screens!

Mouths agape,

Tongues lolling,

Watching cheap half-hour thrills,

to eke out some semblance of meaning;

Ha! And dignity…

They wouldn't even realize,

If their next door neighbor died.

Until the stink, of the rotted thing,

Will make them turn the screens off;

And crawl out.

They still won't think.

They've forgotten how to.

 

Still they say rhythm makes melodies,

Even now;

When even suicide has become cliched!

Then what to do? What to do?

Oh nothing to do! Nothing to do!

But existing day to day

Like a pendulum moving to and fro

to and fro,

fro and to,

and what to do?

Oh Nothing!
