SATSANG The incandescent lamp beams softly above Yet when I close my eyes it is brighter With a viscous light conducting a group Of singers who seek themselves. Whiter Glows the light with each additional song Metaphors make sense as the senses merge, What remains is within and beyond Perception. Edified emotions surge
Within and subside, dissolved in the musical silence. Can this be a hallucination, a disco branded divine? A clinic for mental pain-relief, a pub to drown elemental grief? Those are sordid comparisons. This is a sweet, simple shrine. There is no frenzy here, nor illusion. The cool ambience Radiating warmth is real. I belong here, and it is mine. ANOTHER SATSANG Between dulcet bhajan notes and homogenous anecdotes He looked exhausted as his guitar, which refused to tune. Yet when his voice enveloped us for the while He was a songbird of the skies. His constant smile Was real. A smile cannot be faked so without grimacing. His words were jaded, yet the purpose bracing In his clear eyes celebrated the moments. Reflecting always The saffron silk swathed photograph on the dais The Divine was audible, I realised. I knew his voice likewise Like them all in that resonant hall, I knew it to be mine. Was it a void filling within or an overflow? That I did not know. I could not think, or clap, or sing, I could hardly move They cheered when he demanded, are you all happy, yes/no? I was not, being jealous of his serenity. and longed to tell him so.
