like SNMP traps, alert messages out via email, etc.

As someone else mentioned, yes. However, when compared to Veritas or
<insert data management product> does that match up? This could easily
rathole into a "when will ZFS read email" discussion but it is something
that should probably be thought about in the context of ZFS as a
standalone entity and also in a larger system level perspective.
