I'm pretty sure that OpenSolaris 2008.5 is the same a Nevada b89, which definite _does_ have flar. I'm not 100% sure you can get the "install from flash archive" as an option when using the X-based installer; but it should be available when using the text-based one. flar doesn't care what the underlying filesystem is.
