I'm pretty sure that OpenSolaris 2008.5 is the same a Nevada b89, which 
definite _does_ have flar.
I'm not 100% sure you can get the "install from flash archive" as an 
option when using the X-based installer; but it should be available when 
using the text-based one.

flar doesn't care what the underlying filesystem is.  However, the 
support tools in the installer do care, since flar is run after the 
filesystem has been laid out and created.
