Through scsi compat layer..

socker:~# smartctl -a -d scsi /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0

Note that you can get more complete information by using "-d sat,12" than by using "-d scsi". This works for me on both the onboard AHCI ports and the SATA drives connected to my Intel SASUC8I (LSI-based) HBA.
