Are the SAS drives multipathed? If so, do you have round-robin (default in most 
Solaris distros) or logical-block?


Physically, the SAS drives are not multipathed as I connected them directly to the HBA. I also disable multipathing via mpt_sas.conf.

Yes. SAS disks can be multipathed, SATA disks cannot.
