Position: Sr Business Analyst

Location: Detroit, MI       

Duration: 3 Months

Rate: $40/hr



This position will help to learn from the business or customer what its needs 
are and how to translate them into technical requirements for information 
management or for application development.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  a.. Conducts planning sessions and set up project management around the 
collection of business requirements 
  b.. Conducts feasibility analyses of ideas, pre requirement gathering if 
  c.. Elicits requirements from the business or customer 
  d.. Identifies, investigates, defines and refines the requirements with the 
  e.. Works with the business or customer to determine the value of their 
requirement request 
  f.. Facilitates working group sessions with the business to identify and 
drive requirements and identifies Business Process Improvements by creating 
Business Process workflow diagrams to support improved quality of requirements 
  g.. Analyzes requirements if necessary for scope, budget or resources 
  h.. Documents requirements and ensure with the technical staff and business 
staffs that the documentation clearly communicates the business needs 
  i.. Oversee any change request process, and facilitate weekly meetings, 
ensuring issues are addressed and resolved; coordinate with project leadership 
to identify and gain commitment in the concept and rollout timeframe of 
  j.. Works collaboratively with the customer and with the technical areas such 
that future requirement gathering is simplified and effective and strong, 
ongoing relationships are established. 
  k.. Leads the management and monitoring of multiple projects simultaneously 
by establishing project plans and objectives to ensure goal attainment with 
defined parameters. 
  l.. Mentors and motivates teammates 
  m.. Participates in customer team meetings and technology development, design 
and prototype discussions. 
  n.. Reviews deliverables during the design and implementation process 
  o.. Engages the testing team with the business team in requirement gathering 
to ensure proper and effective testing, defect reporting and resolution to meet 
the customers needs 
  p.. Effectively resolves issues and brings true problems to management 
attention earlier and with potential solutions. 
  q.. Interfaces with programmers and developers to define and implement 
business intelligence tools and solutions for healthcare analytics and metrics 
  r.. Communicates project progress, results and recommendations through 
meetings, phone calls, presentations and written reports. Regular 
communications with the business are expected. 
  s.. Maintains analytical and PC skills. 
  t.. Keeps current with relevant health care issues project management and 
industry initiatives and technology advances. Pays attention to advances in 
performance measurement 

  a.. College Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Health Care 
Administration, Computer Science, Systems Development or other related field is 

  a.. Six (6) or more years experience as a business analyst in health care or 
insurance, with a basic understanding of the products and processes of a health 
care payer 
  b.. Has gathered and structured requirements and other information to 
accurately reflect the business processes and data 
  c.. Has participated in design solutions that are easy to use and can 
demonstrate that the priorities of the business were met 
  d.. Knowledge of project management and testing methodologies 
  e.. Demonstrated organizational, prioritization and time management skills. 
  f.. Demonstrated ability to lead a team and train and mentor support 
  g.. Displays excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with 
a variety of senior-level executives, both internal and external. 
  h.. Self-confident yet respectful of others and willing to utilize the 
resources available in order to provide a quality service to the client. 
  i.. Capable of diplomatically taking control and driving a team toward a 
common goal during requirements meetings. 
  j.. Proven success in complex problem analysis and resolution in an 
environment requiring superior negotiating and conflict resolution skills. 
  k.. Strong business analysis skills, including facilitation skills and a 
thorough understanding of analysis deliverables 
  l.. Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team. Strong 
technology acumen and track record of hands-on implementations across multiple 
  m.. Commitment to professional growth; seeks opportunities for development; 
expected to share knowledge with others. 
  n.. Superior communication, planning and coordination skills 
  o.. Experience with Microsoft Access, Visio, Project and Excel or similar 
tools in order to perform database searches to respond to research questions 
and perform statistical analyses. 
  p.. Strong data management skills including understanding of requirements 
determination, data organizational structures, organized testing approaches 
report design and development. 
  q.. Strong understanding of health care analytics 
  r.. Demonstrates excellent organizational, verbal and written skills to 
understand interpret and communicate ideas, including the ability to succinctly 
present the results of their own analysis utilizing Microsoft PowerPoint or 
similar tool. 
  s.. Ability to effectively interface with employees at all levels. 
  t.. Knows Case Use, RUP

Department Requirements:

Six (6) or more years business analysis experience in requirements gathering, 
reporting and presentation of key performance metrics (including financial, 
utilization and clinical) and/or data warehouse subject areas.


Applicant needs to be a highly motivated, creative and a critical-thinker who 
can analyze diffuse business wants and present them in an organized, value 
driven, manner to our technical teams. Applicant must work well in a team 
environment.  Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels of 
the organization.  Able to lead requirements gathering to a timely and 
successful conclusion applying project management skills.  Closely work with 
the testing team to optimize results.  In addition, the applicant will need the 
ability to lead complex and dynamic projects and with large financial and/or 
risk impact to the corporation.  


Department Preferences:

  a.. Master degree in relevant field. 
  b.. COGNOS experience 
  c.. Data warehousing experience
