That's where it is?!? Actually, I think that I once knew that, but the
information is in Zim itself!

This is the sanctioned place to put config files (a.k.a. XDG_CONFIG_HOME). You will see increasingly more applications from both the Gnome / XFCE and the KDE school of thought put their config there insteadd of directly clobbering the home dir.
