Please refer to https://github.com/jaap-karssenberg/zim-android-mockapp/wiki for a project setup of what needs to be done in order to create a full zim android app. No progress on this for lack of volunteers that can pick up bits and pieces of it. I would be open to having parts filled in as "bounties", but really have no experience with platforms to find the right people to pick up the job.
