I never knew about abbreviations in Zim before, but I do a similar thing via other software:
Windows: AutoHotkey Mac: Karabiner Elements Linux: Autokey If your Zim exploration doesn't work out, check out the above. They work across all apps which is nice, but you can also limit the shortcuts to certain apps (at least in AutoHotkey).
