I hate to wreck the party, which is a lot of fun, but I believe a "depression" is
an outmoded word (which in turn replaced financial panic (as in the panic of
1837). A depression is, iirc, defined by two successive quarters of negative
growth. The US had a recession; Canada hasn't had one (yet; let's cross our
