Gary,

Opinions being what they are; being a liberal (whether a Democrat in the U.S., or
perhaps a member of the Labour party in England), it is incompatible with being "a
straight-laced LDS".

The liberal philosphy tending towards pro-abortion, pro-gay, pro-pornography, the
free-drug/booze/sex culture. This would be so anti-LDS's philososphy, that in all
conscienceness that the straight-laced LDS would even attempt to go to the temple.

I suspect that this would be one of the many reasons why the church prefers not to get
involved in politics - at least from the pulpit; as if those things I just mentioned
are really political topics.

But, I think it would be rather interesting to have someone deeply involved as a
Democrat and expounding on the liberal philosphy and than go to church that Sunday and
say in fact that there is evil in the gay life style. It would tend towards hypocracy.
