I would have to say it is a little hard to pay taxes in a state where so many people mooch off the the goverment's taxes funded programs. It is hard to pay such high taxes for so many people who come from other countries for the sole purpose of getting free health care. Yes the schools are good in the suburbs, but the inner city is horrifying. Now, I'll have to say, My husband and I are students and don't pay enough taxes to mention....but we have lived in the city, and attend the city ward. It is discouraging, the welfare mentality that has come from all the "subsidized" programs, and the desparity this mentality has caused. So, yes the taxes do pay for nice things, in the suburbs! But the horrifying state of inner city Boston, Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan to name only a few. So many of my dear friends, who are trapped in the cycle, would have happier lives working for a hard earned dollar in Kansas (or anyother middle america state), living in a small place that they PAY FOR THEMSELVES, than living in the projects in Boston, living off the dole. I can't help but think that some of these tax dollars would have done more good in the pockets of the hard working middle class than on the tax funded programs that lure the lower socioeconomic class into a trap of poverty.

On that light note....I need some breakfast :)

That's exactly what I was saying. My fair Commonwealth is known
variously as The People's Republic and Taxachussetts. Course, I
moved here from Connecticut (which had no state income tax at the
time), although I paid non-resident New York State and New York
City taxes (good training for anyone thinking of moving north to
Boston). On the other hand, the public schools are pretty decent
here and health care is available to all, generally. I really
don't mind paying extra for such, although I suffer sticker shock
every April 15th.
