a question,
I have dedicated NIC for two of my zones, but when I created the zones it
looked as it created it like a VIP, see output below...

That is a logical interface.

is that normal? I thought the zone would be using e1000g1 or e1000g2 by itself

zonecfg -z <zonename> info ip-type

if it is set to shared, you can not dedicate a NIC to that zone. it must be exclusive.

thank you

- from the global zone using the ifconfig command ---

e1000g1: flags=1000842<BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4> mtu 1500 index 5
inet netmask 0 ether 0:14:4f:81:d7:93 e1000g1:1: flags=1000843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4> mtu 1500 index 5
        zone rsmxap08z1
        inet netmask ffffff00 broadcast
