This version of the patch solves all the conflicts caused by the long period of
inactivity in this particular JIRA.
Not all of the tests are passing under TestNG now, because some new tests were
introduced, which set some environment and fail to clean it properly afterward.
However, per our conversation with Patrick I do submit this version of the
patch for it has features having some value for the project.
