I have merged ZOOKEEPER-486 back. It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to
separate these patches because they are not completely disjoint. Aside from
having more folks reviewing this patch, we need to:
* Improve documentation (ZOOKEEPER-607);
* Fetch netty jar through ivy (ZOOKEEPER-.633).
