This doesn't show a "huge raft of unrelated changes":

 $ svn diff -r 41511 \
   svn+ssh://svn.zope.org/repos/main/CMF/branches/tseaver-catalog_events

The patch has a couple of conflicts when applied to the 2.0 trunk, but
nothing extreme.
