I believe so, for ZODB objects, anyhow.  For data which is retrieved from
outside the ZODB, the those systems' transaction machinery must be used.
ZPatterns handles this seamlessly, as long as the other databases it
accesses support fully ACID transactions following the Zope two-phase
commit protocol.
