distutils' support for applications, as opposed to libraries, is (still)
pathetic.  Sysadmins are the target audience for the installer, not
Python programmers;  './configure && make && sudo make install" is the
classic pattern for them (which is why we do Zope2 this way now).

- -1 to removing './configure'.
