Maybe there should be a top-level README (a peer of the 'src' directory)
which outlines the overall architecture and points to the individual
sub-packages as they fit into that concept. Then, anybody who checks
out the trunk, or a tag, or a branch, will get that overview in the
"top" of their checkout.
