Here another important point will be CPU usage. With most of the service providers there is a limit on the percentage of CPU usage for a unit of time (or some other form of control). Once you cross that they may either stop your process (a pain) or a even disable your account to various degrees. This can become a serious issue if your site attracts large number of visitors.
