that did the trick...

<dtml-if "_.str(nl_goLiveDate) == ZopeTime().strftime('%Y/%m/%d')">

also found out that 

<dtml-if "nl_goLiveDate.strftime('%Y/%m/%d') ==
ZopeTime().strftime('%Y/%m/%d')">

works as well.
