There is definitely a trickle charge on the Performa 5200, 6200 and some
5300/6300's. I have been needing to replace my pram battery for a while,
but for now I just leave my computer plugged in all the time. It remembers
the pram settings even when I turn off the computer

I don't have any documentation relating to the trickle charge theory,
but I do have a personal experience with it.

My mom turned off the power strip every night that her Performa 6300
was connected to. She was needing a PRAM battery every year until I
convinced her not to do that. Her last PRAM battery has lasted at least
3 years, so I am convinced there is a trickle charge.
