The PRAM battery on my Performa 6200 died, so instead of shelling out $10 to
buy a new Rayovac 840 4.5 volt battery, I made my own by putting 3 AAs in a
battery pack and soldering the connector from the old Rayovac 840 onto the
battery pack. Booting up the computer gives me the blinking question mark,
so I insert a bootable cd and the computer boots. I can still access my
hard disk and all the files on it when I boot from a cd, but I can't boot
from the hard drive. I tried removing my makeshift battery, but I have this
same problem.
I would like to know if buying a proper battery will fix this problem, or if
this computer is a goner.

Thanks,
Andrew Conachey
