I think it likely that XP rejects your CD because it finds later
versions of the files installed on the computer.  For example does
your CD include SP2?  I anycase it will not contain the latest
critical updates that you have.  This is probably why technicians
make a slipstream disk.

There is a way round it but I have never managed to master this.  It
involves running sfc /scannow using the C:I386 directory.
