I'd like to announce that my latest abc file is now online - a
transcription of all 50 of the tunes in the Renaissance dance tutor book
Orchesography.
Laura and Frank have each made a few of the tunes available on their
sites, but this is, I believe, the first time all the melodies have been
released in abc format.
For those of you unfamiliar with the Orchesography the entire work, a
'Treatise in the form of a dialogue, by which all may easily learn and
practise the honourable exercise of dancing'
published in France in 1589, is available online through the United
States Library of Congress digitisation project at http://memory.loc.gov
(browse through the Dance Manuals catalogue, or follow the link I have
included in the notes in the abc file). You will, however, have to be
able to read French :-)
