"open source" means that you publish the source code for free for
people to edit as they will and recompile on their own platform.
It's popular among unix users.

The people who write open source apps, and are most vociferous in
proselytising the idea, tend to be paid a salary by a university
somewhere while they're doing it.   Ok for some.  No-one that I know
has ever come up with a model of how people like you and me would
get paid for our time if we put out the fruits of our many man
years' labour as open source.

If I can crack it, then MOZART will have an abc import soon(ish)
too.  But I have a living to make too.  :-(
