Hi Yamuna,

Camera scanners are quite good. Ditch the Kurzweil 1000. There are add-ons for
nvda that allow you to interface with scanners. Jaws does so natively I
believe.

You can still buy fineReader which is the best OCR in terms of accuracy.

Having said all the above, have a chat with the SaralX sales team, NAB Delhi,
the people at XRCVC, who may have better ideas.

I too have been looking for scanners that support at least a3 paper or cameras
with a wide angle view.

There are plenty of those around as well, some have been developed in India.
For a4 text, phone cameras are enough. The tricky part though is mounting them
and getting the lighting right. You can go for a dedicated phone scanner stand.

What kinds of books do you want to read? I ask because at least for fiction,
the majority of books are available on amazon kindle or are being sold by
individual authors from their own bookstores.

You will also want to check bookshare and our national library for the blind
called Sugamya Pustakalaya. The thing about Sugamya Pustakalaya is that I
cannot find the current URL for the same.

The other option for you is to donate your print books to bookshare India who
will transcribe them for you. I however do not know about the speed of
transcription and conversion.

NAB Delhi also has a team who can scan a book for you.

Finally, look at the brand Cannon who do sell scanners here. A quick search
lead me to the following device.
