I used to read posts from SQL DBAs piss arsing around trying to get the right combination of stuff installed so they can send status reports from their DB server ... while the rest of the world just squirts two kb at port 25 on a nearby SMTP server.
I think the big problem at the moment is that there are no really good/useful open standards to do the sorts of more advanced things that MAPI/ActiveSync etc do - only bits and pieces like iCal, vcard etc - none of which work really well. I have a customer using emantra in Brisbane - though they really want 5+ user customers (www.emantra.com.au) and to be honest they're not very switched on. There is always: http://www.microsoft.com/Online/default.mspx I can't really see myself going back to Exchange from Google Apps Premier though. It is just so turn key and a complete no brainer to use - and they keep on improving it. > ------------------------------ > > Ian Thomas > Victoria Park, Western Australia > ------------------------------ > > *From:* [email protected] [mailto: > [email protected]] *On Behalf Of *David Connors > *Sent:* Friday, 5 March 2010 6:08 PM > *To:* Mailing List Administration > *Subject:* Re: Anyone using Outlook 2007/2010 ? > > > > On 5 March 2010 17:11, Ian Thomas <[email protected]> wrote: > > Scenario: I tend to use Outlook 2003 as a store for information, and it > has its problems. > > I haven’t really considered an email alternative (I use gmail and hotmail, > and both are fine in their way and for my purpose – but they can’t replace > Outlook).
