Well, sudo make install is guaranteed to work, while sudo checkinstall requires additional software to do its job. And you can always do sudo make uninstall that should reverse the effect of make install. It's a nice tool, however, just not what you'd want to use during normal development. So not sure if it should be featured on the wiki. Might be a nice addition to the INSTALL and README shipped with source tarballs, as that is what will be used by endusers that might want to get rid of stuff again long after they got rid of the source tarball and build directory.
