1. seeking drummers & dancers, Mount Shasta...
Posted by: "Kimberly" [EMAIL PROTECTED] moksa7

Hi drummers and dancers!!

I moved from L.A August 2, 2006 in order to explore living here in Mount
Shasta. It has been a necessary refuge for me to go within and feel my own
rhythms. I teach Pilates, am a Hellerwork Practitioner (rolfing) and instruct a
beginning African Dance Class. I imagine
daily how wonderful it would be to have many fabulous L.A drummers and Dancers
come out and play here. Sort of a Street Festival. I can't help but feel that
the heartbeat of drumming sounding through the streets would get people moving
in appreciation of a little change. I'm not in charge of events here, but I do
know contacts to make this
possible. I would consider it a place to retreat for awhile and a chance for
you all to feel Mount Shasta. Would any groups be interested? Or would anyone
be willing to organize a core group to come out and play!!!

Love to you all,
Kimberly

You can contact me directly through e-mail if you prefer: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

3. Ras Nas new CD: Dar-Es-Salaam
Posted by: "Kool" [EMAIL PROTECTED] rasn55
Date: Fri Sep 14, 2007 4:16 pm ((PDT))

Press release
Dar-Es-Salaam CD by Ras Nas. Oslo 3rd November
www.rasnas.kongoi.com

With the emergence of Tanzanian artist, Ras Nas aka Nasibu Mwanukuzi,
on the East African music scene, there is no doubt that the region's
musical terrain will never be the same. His long awaited CD "Dar-Es-
Salaam", due to be released on 3rd November this year, is a follow-up
to the debut, "Cut You Loose", and reflects a remarkable and
qualitative change in Ras Nas' music. While "Cut You Loose" was
mostly experimental, with "Dar-Es-Salaam", Ras Nas appears to reach
maturity and achieve a distinct identity both as studio and concert
artist.

The nine tracks in "Dar-Es-Salaam" are all unique as well as
individual potential hits. The title track "Dar-Es-Salaam" is a song
that starts with a cool rhumba ballad and shifts to hot irresistible
seben. It is a revisit to the classic sounds of East and Central
Africa, but wrapped in the contemporary mood of the day. On the dance
floor the song has proven to be captivating both to the old and the
young. The song is a tribute to the city of Dar-Es-Salaam and its
magnificent beauty. It is in this city that Ras Nas molded his
interest in music and poetry. Other songs include Guantanamo, Zakina,
Revelation Times, Dance Rhumba, Sina Makosa (a version of the mighty
Simba wa Nyika), Sweet Rhythms, River Nile and Aisha. The lyrics for
Sweet Rhythms and River Nile are taken from Nasibu's collection of
poetry "Double Focus".

Reviewing Ras Nas ' live radio concert, spring 2007, veteran music
journalist with the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, NRK, Arne
Berg, put it in this way; "It was a memorable experience. From heavy
dub poetry to exhilarating soukous – rarely has the public in Studio
19 shaken their bodies so thoroughly and seldom have we experienced
such a sweaty, happy and smiling audience go home after a show!"

In "Dar-Es-Salaam" CD, Ras Nas has worked with a number of highly
talented artists from nine different countries, a total of 24 of
them, among them two renown arits from Dar-Es-Salaam; bassist Keppy
Kiombile and guitarist Norman Bikaka.

Ras Nas writes, recites and sings in English and Swahili, the latter
being the lingua franca of Africa. In other words, as an artist of
sheer originality, he is laying down footsteps for others to follow.
This is fresh and welcome news from a region that has hardly produced
an artist of international caliber for the past two decades.

Ras Nas' debut concert was in 1992 in Oslo, at the celebration to
mark the 99th Anniversary of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I.
In the Zodiac sign this was an event in itself. Since then, Ras Nas
has performed for Nelson Mandela, shared the stage with Bob Dylan,
Van Morrison, and Lou Reed at the Norwegian Wood Festival, among
others.

After all is said and done, the year 2007 finds Ras Nas in a high
gear. In spring, Ras Nas was Artist of the Week at the Norwegian
state radio after spending most of autumn/winter in InnerCity Studio
in Oslo, working on "Dar-Es-Salaam". In August Ras Nas played at Oslo
Mela Festival and in November he is one of the artists at this year's
Oslo World Music Festival.

10. Jamati.com--Africa's Premier Entertainment Portal
Posted by: "roxana_bangura" [EMAIL PROTECTED] african.beat
Date: Fri Sep 14, 2007 4:28 pm ((PDT))

Family and friends,

After years of hard work and ups and downs I would like to announce
the launching of www.jamati.com Africa's premier entertainment
portal where we are dedicated to supporting the artistic endeavours
of Africans worldwide.

Please take the time to visit the site.

www.jamati.com

Africa's Premiere Entertainment Portal Hits The Internet
Jamati.com <http://jamati.com/>, Africa's premier entertainment portal is a one
stop resource dedicated to supporting the artistic endeavors of Africans
worldwide. Jamati.com <http://jamati.com/> will announce its launch
(www.jamati.com) Tuesday September 11, 2007. The launch of this interactive and
comprehensive portal will provide visitors with a new online African
entertainment experience, providing a wealth of information on entertainers
from every corner of the globe within the African Diaspora.

What sets Jamati.com <http://jamati.com/> apart is that it draws its content
from the whole spectrum of Africa. It is uniquely in tuned with the African
Diaspora community that has grown from just a handful of students migrating
from Africa to Europe and the US in the 1960's to millions in the 21 st
century. These first and second generation Africans are now making their mark
in music, film, fashion and sports. Examples are DJ turned actor Idriss Elba
whose parents are from Sierra Leone and Ghana. Other examples are Sudanese
supermodel Alex Wek and couture designer Amsale from Ethiopia. The list goes on
and on. At Jamati.com <http://jamati.com/> there is an intrinsic understanding
of first and second generation Africans who have had the opportunity to live in
the Diaspora but still maintain grounded in their African roots. We can recall
the song Mama Africa from Akon who emigrated to the US at the tender age of 7.
In the song he encourages all to visit Africa and that there is so much to
love about her. It is this type of understanding and knowledge about the
African Diaspora entertainment industry that Jamati.com <http://jamati.com/>
has to offer to its audience.

Another pioneering effort on the part of Jamati.com <http://jamati.com/> is
that it is available in English and French two very dominant languages in the
Diaspora. Jamati's reach will be felt in communities as far reaching as Harlem
in NY and La Villette in Paris.
