I have a Dell Latitude CPiA, which uses the Neomagic nm256av chipset. If I try to use the alsa snd-card-nm256 driver, my machine locks up hard. I have to hold down the power button for several seconds to force it to power off. There is no output on the screen and no indication of what went wrong.
However, the in-kernel OSS/Lite driver (nm256_audio) works fine. I am using kernel 2.4.17 and alsa0.9.10beta10. output from 'lspci -v': 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Neomagic Corporation [MagicMedia 256AV] (rev 20) (prog-if 00 [VGA]) Subsystem: Dell Computer Corporation: Unknown device 0088 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 11 Memory at f9000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=16M] Memory at fdc00000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4M] Memory at fdb00000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1M] Capabilities: [dc] Power Management version 1 01:00.1 Multimedia audio controller: Neomagic Corporation [MagicMedia 256AV Audio] (rev 20) Subsystem: Dell Computer Corporation: Unknown device 0088 Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 5 Memory at f8c00000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=4M] Memory at fda00000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1M] Capabilities: [dc] Power Management version 1 output from 'modprobe nm256_audio': NeoMagic 256AV/256ZX audio driver, version 1.1p PCI: Found IRQ 5 for device 01:00.1 NM256: Found card signature in video RAM: 0x27ec00 NM256: Mapping port 1 from 0x266c00 - 0x27ec00 Initialized NeoMagic 256AV audio in PCI native mode Initialized AC97 mixer Anyhow, what can I do about this? - Pizza -- Solomon Peachy pizzaATfucktheusers.org I ain't broke, but I'm badly bent.
