Are you trying to get midi working, and the midi ports are via the joystick, or are you trying to get the joystick working. The driver for the joystick itself is outside of ALSA scope, and is provided by a different kernel module. The MIDI via the joystick port should just work if you have the correct ALSA modules loaded.
