This cannot be made to work for the in-kernel (/dev/dsp) OSS emulation.
Your only option is to run those apps with the aoss wrapper.

I tried aoss, but MythTV doesn't seem to work correctly using aoss, but I'll test again...



This was the response from the mythtv developers:

"Erm... MythTV supports ALSA just fine. You simply have to define the
sound devices as ALSA:<yourdevicehere>."

Thanks for the pro-active support... I am looking in to that now, but having a hard time setting it up as the GUI doesn't really help there (It just points to /dev/dsp* and /dev/mixer*). It looks as if they've done their best to hide the fact that ALSA is supported... ;-)

FYI: I tweaked the asound.conf and MythTV now plays very nicely with aoss. If I cannot get the ALSA:<mydevicehere> working, I'll at least have that as a backup option!
