I have tried several versions of asoundrc files, but whatever version
I use, I do not get softvol in the OSS emulation.
This cannot be made to work for the in-kernel (/dev/dsp) OSS emulation.
Your only option is to run those apps with the aoss wrapper.

Ah, I misunderstood then...
I tried aoss, but MythTV doesn't seem to work correctly using aoss, but
I'll test again...
This was the response from the mythtv developers:
"Erm... MythTV supports ALSA just fine. You simply have to define the
sound devices as ALSA:<yourdevicehere>."

Thanks for the pro-active support... I am looking in to that now, but
having a hard time setting it up as the GUI doesn't really help there
(It just points to /dev/dsp* and /dev/mixer*). It looks as if they've
done their best to hide the fact that ALSA is supported... ;-)
FYI: I tweaked the asound.conf and MythTV now plays very nicely with
aoss. If I cannot get the ALSA:<mydevicehere> working, I'll at least
have that as a backup option!
Thanks again!
