Hello Everyone,
I started using Fedora Core 5 on a Toshiba Satellite P35-S611 a few
months back, and have always had sound. Today I got to work and
attempted to start XMMS. After taking a long time to run it wouldn't
play music, but gave me the message, "Couldn't Open Audio: Please check
that: Your soundcard is configured properly, You have the correct
output plugin selected, No other program is blocking the soundcard".
I started searching the net for answers, and after reading many posts on
several forums I was not able to find a solution to my problem. I saw
where several people had a similar circumstance, and running
./snddevices solved their issue. However, after doing a "locate
snddevices" nothing came up.
While reading the posts mentioned above I found:
Typing "alsamixer" gives me:
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device
Type "amixer" gives me:
amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such device
Running "strace -eopen alsamixer" I eventually get....
open("/dev/snd/controlC0", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or
directory)
open("/dev/aloadC0", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or
directory)
My sound was working fine last night, I installed a game, but other than
that didn't change any settings/devices/configs on my system. I've
tried logging out and rebooting, but it still seems like my sound card
doesn't exist anymore :( Does anyone have good advice for me?
Thank You,
Troy
