Following a grand Opening Ceremonies by the hosts, which featured
the
teams parading onto the field accompanied by a piper and Legion
Honour
Guard in the rural eastern Ontario community of Spring Brook
the
Pickering Heat methodically dismantled all the competition in
sweltering temperatures.

Pitcher Steven MacLeod led his team, the Pickering Heat, on the
mound
and at the plate in a 9-3 final game victory over a scrappy
Peterborough Thunder squad that battled back after a loss to
Richmond
Hill on Saturday.

Macleod pitched in all of the HeatÂ’s games as they defeated the
Mallorytown Mariners (16 – 1) Walkerton Capitals (8 – 7) and
Richmond
Hill Thunder (14 – 3) before meeting the Thunder in the finals.
The
final game was a close one until Pickering broke it open with
four
runs in the sixth off Peterborough starter Brennan Bolton who
was
equally impressive as his counterpart MacLeod. Until the sixth
it was
a tight seesaw battle with the score 4 -3. Peterborough gained
the
finals berth with two straight victories Sunday morning 12 –
7 over
Richmond Hill and 9-3 over Walkerton.

The host Spring Brook Royals finished at 2 and 2 along with the
Port
Perry Jr. Jacks after four games on Saturday. Richmond Hill,
after
starting impressively, fell to 2 and 2 with consecutive losses
Sunday
morning. Walkerton Capitals who made it to Sunday also finished
the
tournament with a 2 and 2 record.

Top pitchers were Steven Macleod of Pickering and Brennan Bolton
of
Peterborough who both pitched in all games for their teams. Hitters
that impressed were leadoff batter for Peterborough, Brittany
Moffat,
Richmond HillÂ’s Kyle Thalheimer, Josh Busby of Walkerton along
with
MacLeod and Ed Matthews of the Heat.

Both the players and officials had to contend with sweltering
heat and
it is a credit to all including the hosts for a great event.
