--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Ramada Midget Boys Canadian Fastpitch Championship is in
a rain delay. The organizers are optimistic the event will resume
but no sooner that noon. No official time has been set at this
point.

The first game will feature the host Aspen Selects taking on
BC1 Sooke Smoke. Below is a summary of last nights games.

Last night at 6:30 the A final featured the

undefeated Aspen Selects taking on the third place Saskatchewan
Chiefs. Both teams had come of an exciting previous affair to
get them to this point. The Chiefs squeaked out a 1-0 win over
Leduc and the Selects scored 2 in the bottom of the 7th to beat
Napanee 3-2. The Chiefs got started early, scoring 3 runs off
Selects starter Travis Dauvin in the top of the first. Their
three big offensive weapons of the game did the damage as Terrell
Walker hit a single, Denis Iron a double and Christian Bear wrapped
up the scoring in the inning with another single. The Selects
never recovered as hits were hard to come by of Chiefs ace Dustin
Keshane. The Selects managed to score one run off Steven Kessler’s
home run in the second, but the Chiefs matched that with an RBI
single by Terrell Walker in the fourth to chase Dauvin. Keshane
allowed just 3 base runners following Kessler’s blast, while
recording 11 more K’s to end with a total of 12. Devon McCullough
shut down the Chiefs in the second half of the game but the Selects
bats went dead.

The 8:30 game featured 2 teams going in different directions.
The Sooke Smoke were hot as they came off a pair of playoff wins
4 – 0 over Chepstow and a thrilling 1-0 win over Napanee. Leduc
was still recovering from being shut out by the Chiefs. After
a scoreless first, the Smoke scored 3 in the top of the second
off of Leduc starter Cory Jones. They got a triple from Ryan
Haldane, a single by Kyle Cowick and a homerun by Kris Banner
to take the early lead. In the bottom of the inning, Leduct replied
with a run on three hits including, Courtney Nelson’s RBI single.
Sooke never quit scoring as hey got 2 more in the 4th, a run
in the 5th and 2 more in the 6th. Pitcher Scot Lieph limited
Leduc to a total of 3 runs on 7 hits while recording 7K’s . Sooke
pounded out 12 hits off Jones in 5 plus innings but got only
1 off Devin Swyripa who got the last 6 out for the 747’s
