Mother Nature rains on Eastern Canadians parade, forcing schedule
change

ALBERTON - Rain has forced organizers of the Tignish Credit Union
Midget Girls Eastern Canadian championships, in conjunction with
Softball P.E.I., to make some schedule changes, reducing it from
a five game per team event to a revised four game round robin
event.

Friday’s play had been threatened with rain since early morning
but it held off long enough to get in five of the six games on
tap in the 9 and 11 a.m. games.

One game was suspended in the top of the seventh with the Prince
County Heat ahead 10-5 over Sud Ouest Dragons (Quebec One) with
one out. That game will be finished at 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning
before play continues from that point on Friday’s schedule, only
games are starting at 8 a.m. and not 9 a.m. as scheduled.

Games Saturday will be 8, and 10 a.m. and 12, 2, 4, and 6 p.m.
The championship game is now set for Sunday at 1 p.m.

COUGARS REMAIN PERFECT

In games completed on Friday, the Cornwall Cougars remained undefeated
thanks to a five run seventh that capped off a come-from-behind
8-7 win over Quebec No. One representative, Sud Ouest Dragons.

Trailing 7-3 into the top of the seventh, Katherine Hay and Amanda
Creamer helped get the Cougar bats alive with back to back hits
that drove in three of the five runs.

Hay (2-4, two RBI), Creamer (2-4, two RBI, run scored) and Emily
Hodge (1-2, two run scored, walk, RBI) led the attack.

Krista McLeod (3-4, triple, run scored, RBI) and Stephanie Perron
(2-2, walk, RBI, double) had the hot bats for the Dragons.

Jenn Riddel pitched a complete game, two hitter mowing down 12
batters and Ana Smelsky hit an inside the park home run to power
Ontario no two representative Halton Hills past Quebec no two,
Extreme Laval 3-0.

Kristie Jackson (1-2, run scored, walk) was the other player
to contribute in the win.

Briann Alfred (1-3) and Vanessa Soucy (1-2) had the top hits
for Quebec.

Riddell walked one in earning the win. Soucy suffered the loss
giving up three runs on three hits, walking four and fanning
three over four innings of work.

A ‘ROSE’-Y PICTURE FOR STRATFORD OPTIMIST

Jennalee Shean pitched a complete game no hitter and April Rose
had two triples as Stratford, the Ontario no. three representatives,
got by Au P’tit Mousse of Lameque, N.B. (N.B. 2) 7-0.

Rose scored twice, walked and also plated one run in the big
victory. Kelly Glover (2-3, two RBI, double) was the other big
bat for the Optimist

Shean walked one and struck out eight.

Maryse Richard took the loss, going six innings surrendering
four runs on four hits while striking out two.

Other scores from Friday were: Ontario champion Palmerston over
Extreme Laval 9Quebec no. two) 7-4; Cole Harbour Comets (Nova
Scotia no. 2) over New Brunswick 3, Saint John Stingers 13-3
in what was a close game until the late innings.
