Jarvis, Ontario The Jarvis Merchants are pleased to announce the signing of AndrewPhibbs, Paul Koert, Allan Phibbs, Chris Shewfelt and Greg Courneyea for the2008 season. Andrew Phibbs and Koert will make up 2/3 of the Merchantspitching staff in 08. Phibbs will be looking to bounce back aftera knee injury that sent him to the sidelines in mid-July. He has beencleared to start throwing and is expected to be 100% when indoor work outsstart in February. Paul Koert joins the Merchants after two seasons withthe Kitchener Hallman Twins. Koert is a two-time All-World selection anda member of the 2003 Canadian champions from Owen Sound. Catcher Allan Phibbs andGreg Courneyea are both returning in 2008 and will split the catching dutieswith Chris Shewfelt. Allan, who finished the 07 season with astrong showing at the WT and Nationals, will also see action at the teams DPwhile Courneyea will also see time at both 1B and 3B. Shewfelt, who waspart of team Canada at thePanAms in Mexicojoins the Merchants after a two year stint with the Twins. The Merchants executive is working on putting thefinal touches to the balance of their roster and are expecting to be able toannounce it within the next two weeks.
