-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hørsholm, Denmark October 2 - 2007 This weekend the dansish fastball champions '07 were found in one of the most exiting games ever played in Denmark. The two teams in the finals were fittingly the two best teams from the regular season: Ballerup Vandals and Hørsholm Hurricanes. Normally the finals are plaed in "best of 3", but because of a rainy saturday, the championship was to be decided in one game. The Vandals fielded a veteran team, with canadiens Gilles Fournier and Patrick McCarron leading the way behind the battery of Thomas Bonde and kiwi-catcher Sam Woodcock.. The Hurricanes had a much younger team, led by kiwis Bernard Hale and Michael Cameron, top danish player Frederik Terkelsen and battery of catcher Thomas Hansen and big Henrik Brask doing the pitching. The game quickly turned in to a seesaw battle: Hurricanes scored in the first inning when Mike Cameron tripled and stole home. Vandals evened the score in the 2nd after an error in the Hurricanes outfield and scored 2 more in the 3rd after 4 solid hits. The Hurricanes stormed back in the bottom of the 3rd with 3 runs only to see the Vandals tie it up in the 5th. So after 7 innings the final was still undecided. The Vandals struck quickly in the 8th, scoring 2 runs, but the Hurricanes fought back and tied it up again. Once more Vandals scored 2 in the 9th, and once more the Hurricanes came back. After scoring 1 run and loading the bases with 2 outs, Anders Hansen hit a screamer of a linedrive to left field. Everything looked like a win for Hurricanes, untill leftfielder Takaki Fujikawa from out of nowhere made the catch of the year! Game over, and a championship for Ballerup Vandals. After the game, the Hurricanes took all the individual playoff rewards: Best batter: Frederik Terkelsen (1.000 5/5, 5 int. BB), Best pitcher: Henrik Brask (1.69, 16 inn, 13 K's, 2 BB's) and MVP: Mike Cameron. But the Vandals took home the Championship trophy and the gold medals! Congratutations to Vandals. Both team are qualified for next years European Cup - with Stenløse Bulls, who are defending EC-champs.
