OK, I suspect, then, that this is a timing-related bug in 3.1.2, that is fixed in the 3_1 branch. Do you have the capacity to build from a tarball on the server? I don't have any pre-built packages for that branch at the moment, but I may be able to get one for you if necessary. If you can build from a tarball, please pick the latest amanda-3.1.3 snapshot from http://www.zmanda.com/community-builds.php and see if that fixes things.
