I looked around a bit in the ...~rc2 package source but didn't find the string "HARD-DISK" anywhere. The rest of that quoted block (including the comment and the "rbl@..." email address) appears in various files; I think they are all derived from amanda-3.4.2/example/amanda.conf.in, but in any case, all the copies I found in the source tree start with "define tapetype HP-DAT {" (rather than "HARD-DISK"). (Charles, what's the full path to the file you were looking at?)
