if you want, pause (stop) amavisd while it is happening, or add table 
write locks first.

better, clean up the 50gb quarantine, look at posts regarding 
partition_tags.

You can use them with and/or without using real mysql partitioning.

using partition_tag (one per week), even without mysql partitioning 
speeds up dropping of old data in maddr, msgs, msgrcpts and quarantine 
tables.
