I haven't gone into the details of the post, but there are 2
amavisd.conf files packaged with FreeBSD port.

One is called amavisd.conf-default, this name usually reflects the
default configuration file provided by the developper of the
software. In this file, do_ascii is commented out.

The other is called amavisd.conf-dist, this name usually reflects the
default configuration file provided by the porter to FreeBSD. In this
file, do_ascii is uncommented.
