[analog-help] police scanner

Can any one telkl me any thing about a police scanner? when  every thing went 
to digital ,within 2 weeks my scanner stoped talking,  just squelch, It is 
analog. I was told there was something like a little chip that could be placed 
in it and it would pick up these new stationsl that have went to digital.
