Unless I'm not understanding your requirement, that is EXACTLY how
SlidingDrawer works...

Here is the sample XML file on the SlidingDrawer docs...

 <SlidingDrawer
     android:id="@+id/drawer"

     android:layout_width="match_parent"
     android:layout_height="match_parent"

     android:handle="@+id/handle"
     android:content="@+id/content">

     <ImageView
         android:id="@id/handle"

         android:layout_width="88dip"
         android:layout_height="44dip" />

     <GridView
         android:id="@id/content"

         android:layout_width="match_parent"
         android:layout_height="match_parent" />

 </SlidingDrawer>

The content is hidden... The handle is always visible. And the handle can
be any layout, just as you wanted. And when you click that handle, it will
come out as a drawer, just like you want.
