Ah yes thanks, I've got 1.5.6.3 that comes with Ubuntu 8.10 via
apt-get.
Doing 'git checkout org.openembedded.dev' returns.....
Already on "org.openembedded.dev"
Don't know if that's good or not, don't seem to be an error.

I suspect you are using git older than 1.6.x? If so, you can do 'git
checkout org.openembedded.dev'
