Bucharest lavishing its "volunteers" to all hot spots of the world, from Angola to Afghanistan, is hardly interested in any other conclusion. BUCHAREST, APRIL 28, 2002. /RIA Novosti correspondent Gennady Abalov/ -- On April 27, the Bucharest military hospital registered the death of a serviceman from the peace-keeping contingent in Bosnia. He died of acute leukemia provoked, according to physicians, by the so-called Balkan syndrome boiling down to impact on an organism of depleted uranium integrated in some types of ammunition. Uranium-capped bombs were widely used by American aviation during the war conflicts in Iraq, former Yugoslavia and, according to some data, in Afghanistan. On serving 11 months in Bosnia, senior warrant officer Mircea Marian was urgently delivered home after a drastic deterioration of his health condition. Military doctors denied any relation of his illness to the notorious blood cancer cases among NATO servicemen stationed in Bosnia and Kosovo. Nevertheless, all the 1,500 Rumanian servicemen who participated in the "Bosnian reconciliation" were subject to thorough medical check-ups. All of them were reported to have excellent health, with the exception of the diseased senior warrant officer who was called "a typical sick man who suffered from a disease afflicting every fifth male Rumanian of 20 to 50 years of age." This is a political rather than medical diagnosis, newspapers write. Bucharest lavishing its "volunteers" to all hot spots of the world, from Angola to Afghanistan, is hardly interested in any other conclusion. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
